Playing with flowers and plants

The scent of spring is in the air, days are growing longer and warmer.

The strong bond between children and nature of enormous educational potential. That is why, with just a little imagination, your garden can become a source of ideas for games and educational activities with your kids.

Here are two suggestions on how to spend time enjoying nature together:

ART FLOWERS and LEAVES

Collect flowers (not too small) and leaves, pointing out the different colours and shapes to your child. Spread an old tablecloth or sheets of newspaper on the table or floor, to keep the surface clean. You will now need crayons and white paper. Get your child to colour in the leaves very gently. In the meantime, prepare a small jar of white glue diluted with water to stick the leaves your child has coloured onto the sheet of paper (this is a job for adults!). You can do the same thing with flowers: make a beautiful bouquet with your child and glue the flowers onto the white sheet of paper. Your child will be so proud of these simple works of art you make together.

GROWING FLOWERS

You will need an earthenware or glass jar with a hole on the bottom, soil and flower seeds of your choice (remember to choose seasonal flowers that have a better chance of growing). Let your child fill the jar with soil with his own hands. Then plant the flower seeds. Dampen the surface and let nature take its course. It will take at least a week before you start seeing the first shoots, but your child's surprise when he sees the fruits of his labours will be a joy to see.

These two simple activities help children learn about nature, teaching them that sometimes we need to be patient before we see the results of what we do.
