Escape from the city: a day on the farm

Summer is here: sunshine and flowers tempt us outdoors. A cure-all above all for children, who love to play and enjoy themselves outdoors.

On beautiful summer days, families who live in town want to take their children out of town to spend time in contact with nature. So why not organise a brief escape from city life and spend a few hours in the tranquillity of the countryside?

Just a few kilometres from our towns, away from traffic and smog, there are farms that open their gates to schools, kindergartens and families, where children can learn about farm life and animals.

Allowing small children to come into contact with animals is amazing experience for them, above all in terms of empathy and emotions.

During an “open day at the farm” children will be allowed into the stables, get to know chickens, goats, ponies, donkeys and sheep; they will see where and how they live, and in some cases even interact with them.

On some farms children get to see "broody" animals and even see chicks hatch (at certain times of the year), or learn how to milk a cow. Your children will have a wonderful time!

The benefits of this hands-on experience are both psychological and educational: when children are encouraged to care for animals, even as early as 2 years of age, they learn how to be patient and tend to be more caring toward other people.

But spending a day in contact with nature is not just about the animal world.

Plants are also living beings and are very important for people and the environment. What better way to make a child understand this than by planting a seed and watching it grow?

Search the web to find the farm closest to you that are open to families and children and plan a day's outing on a farm. It will be a truly wonderful experience for the whole family!
