Let’s get our hands sticky with dough making biscuits for the holidays!

Eggs, sugar, flour and a little imagination! We've made the Christmas tree, the letter to Santa Claus has been written, checked and sent, so there is just last thing left to do to enjoy the happy and joyful atmosphere of the holidays. What you are wondering? Christmas cookies of course! Making them with our children becomes a super fun-filled game which can also be educational. Are you ready? You will need a rolling pin, an apron and chef's hat, press play on your favourite Christmas CD and get ready to enter a sweet and colourful world!

Let's start cooking!

This is a classic holiday recipe, but it lets you have lots of fun with shapes and colours. You can make trees, stars, snowflakes, cute teddy bears and gift packs. In other words, whatever you want!

Here are the ingredients:

  • 75 g. butter
  • 50 g. sugar
  • 50 g. icing sugar
  • 1 bag vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 150 g. flour

For the icing sugar you will need:

  • 80 g. icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • food colouring
  • coloured sprinkles
  • chocolate chips
  • pearl sugar

In a large bowl, mix the butter with the sugar and eggs, then add the flour, vanilla and baking powder. This is the part children enjoy most because they can put their hands into the dough to mix the ingredients and make a soft ball. When the dough is ready, place it in the fridge for about an hour.

Now roll out the dough with a rolling pin. This is when the fun starts: it's time shape the biscuits! You can use Christmas cookie cutters or just let your children make whatever shapes they want!

Everything is almost ready, to put the biscuits in the oven. Remember though that only an adult can do this!! Bake the cookies for about 20 minutes at 180 degrees, until they are golden brown. In the meantime you can make the icing sugar! Melt the icing sugar with 2 tablespoons of water and then divide the mixture into different bowls for the different colours. Mix carefully and allow to cool; brush coloured icing on your cookies and add sprinkles.

Now comes the last thing to do. Which is what? Eating them of course!
