THE FIRST EASTER: HOW TO HELP THEM DISCOVER THIS CELEBRATION

02/04/2021

COME FAR ADDORMENTARE IL PROPRIO BAMBINO: ALCUNI SUGGERIMENTI PER ACCOMPAGNARLO NEL MONDO DEI SOGNI

A child's first holiday period is a special time as they begin to experience their first traditions and crafts that will be kept by mum and dad. Obviously, Easter is one of these celebrations, so you have to start preparing to make your child's Easter unforgettable.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends will probably have showered the children with gifts and chocolate eggs (even if Mum and Dad are probably going to eat them). But what makes this time of year so exciting is all the decorations and crafts that you can do with your child, even if they are very young. So how can you keep your children entertained during their first Easter?

The first piece of advice is to create an Easter tree. Just like at Christmas, you can choose this home-made decoration. No fir tree is needed this time, just use some twigs. You can choose to keep them natural, colour them or buy artificial ones. Then, put them in a jar or container.  The fun part is decorating the eggs which will adorn the tree. This is the best bit for children, they can use crayons and paints to draw chicks and trees. Obviously during their first Easter they won’t be able to decorate the egg themselves, but the tree will be show them how they have changed over the years. Adding a new egg every year will show them how far they have come, and, when they grow up, leave them with a good memory from their very first Easter.

Otherwise, you could use cards. If your child is over six months old and enjoys using colours and paint, you can make wonderful cards. You can think of making stamps, so that children just have to dip it in paint and press it onto the paper. You will only need a kitchen roll core, scissors and glue. The paper core can be divided into three parts to be glued together to create a triangular shape. Slightly crush two of the three to create the head of a bunny with two ears. By dipping the outline in paint and then pressing it onto a sheet of paper, the stamp of the Easter bunny's face will come out. This combined with hand prints, will create personalised cards.

Children's hands can also be used to create decorations for the house. Simply draw the outline of a hand on a yellow or black card and cut it out. The black template can become a lamb (bend the fingers and put some cotton wool on the palm). A chick will emerge from the yellow template, by drawing little eyes in the centre of the palm of the hand and adding two little legs.

These are just a few examples of crafts you can do with your child, but there are many more to create the perfect Easter atmosphere at home. The most important thing is to spend time together. When they grow up, they may not remember what was done, but they will look back on their drawings, cards and crafts with pleasure and fondness. But what they will never forget is the time spent together decorating the house or when mum or dad taught them how to draw a chick or a sheep. So, to make your child's first Easter perfect, you don't need big sweets or gifts, just the simplicity of a drawing and time together to make it a lasting memory for years to come.
