The Right Shoes: How To Choose Them
If in the first months of life, it is sufficient to cover tiny feet to protect them from the cold and small bumps, at about the age of one, choosing the right shoe becomes fundamental.
What are the most important characteristics to look for?
- Shoes should be comfortable with a soft upper, to allow toes to move freely without pinching and squeezing them into an unnatural position.
- Soles must be supple and non-slip, and must protect foot soles and joints from the roughness of the ground.
- The back and most solid part of the shoe must provide stable support to the heel.
Even the best shoes however must not be worn for a long period of time: shoes should be changed every day.
Children, as we know, grow quickly, and so do their feet which increase on average every year by 2 or 3 sizes (each size corresponds to 6.6 mm).
When purchasing shoes therefore it is important to choose a size at least 9 to 15 mm longer than the foot, depending on your child’s age, and to check the size every 2-3 months. Remember that children at times do not feel that shoes are too short or too tight.
Simply pushing a finger on the tip of the shoe is not the right way to check the size because normally children will automatically pull back their toes. A foot “measure” should always be used since this gives you the right size, calculating the space required to give toes the right freedom of movement in the shoe.
For this reason we advise you to always go to our specialized dealers, where you will find qualified sales assistants, and to download our foot measure from the website if you can’t bring your child along with you.
